West Edmonton Mall

Dear god this place is massive. 800+ stores, far too many places to eat, a theme park, a waterpark, an NHL sized hockey rink, several mini golf courses, a hotel and an aquarium, if you're looking for the pinnacle of capitalist excess this is it.

That being said, there's some fun to be had... In addition to all the usual stores there are some pretty unique shopping experiences. The indoor roller coaster and especially the water park with wave pool and speed slides all help make it worth the trip.

One of my co-workers has a great story about how one of the penguins decide to get out of his habitat one day and was wandering the mall. Two of the aquarium staff followed him, but they decided to let him have some fun and the bird apparently walked a good chunk of the mall, even looking in the window of a tuxedo rental place (ha!) before they took him home...

If you're going to visit the mall, plan on a full day... just getting into the place is such a pain that you really don't have much choice.
